Overclocking 8320 on Ascrock 970 EXTREME causes issues.
Hello
I'm not completely new to this issue, but I'm facing a big problem with CPU overheating in this motherboard. Even when I reach 4GHz on turbo mode, I don't know what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
CPU water cooled
VRM temperatures stay below 50°C even during gaming
Case temperature ranges from 30 to 48°C
If I increase the voltage on the V-core, nothing changes and I can't reach 4GHz at all either; I've also used a 20x multivoltage supply.
The 970 Extreme 4 features very weak VRMs that are only marginally sufficient for operating an 8-core FX chip at normal speeds. ASRock mentions in their CPU support that a top-down blower CPU cooler is necessary to improve airflow over the VRMs when using eight cores on this board. It's possible you'll experience throttling even if the temperature sensor indicates otherwise, so it might be best to avoid overclocking with this motherboard. Running the chip at stock speeds without throttling under heavy loads would be quite fortunate.
