Building a new rig from scratch for the gtx 1080 is my first time. I got a 6700k skylake with an MSI gaming m5 and purchased the g.skill nt series 8x2gb because it was affordable and had a slim design to avoid interfering with my Nh 15 heatsink. I'm wondering if this will matter when I try to overclock the CPU. Most of what I've read online suggests RAM has a minor impact on overclocking, unless the system raises the voltage. I'm unsure if upgrading to more expensive RAM will really help my overclocking efforts. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

RAM speed isn't important during overclocking a Skylake K chip. Just turn on XMP for the RAM and it should work fine.
