Overclocked i5 4690k
Overclocked i5 4690k
For the past year I didn't even notice my CPU was overclocked, lol. I attempted overclocking once and probably ran into an issue, thinking I had reset it back to stock settings. It seems my CPU has been running at 4.3GHz idle around mid-30s and reaching a max of 60 degrees Celsius during heavy tasks beyond gaming. For a long time, I believed the temperatures weren't ideal for stock configurations (using an H7 cryogenic cooler). Then I checked the core clock speed, which showed 4.300 on all cores, and wondered if it wasn't just an i5 with only 3.5GHz base and 3.9GHz boost? ^_^ It's great to finally realize this today, haha!
a nice surprise indeed
my 4690k has been running at 4.2 ghz since I got it, probably a bit higher around 4.3 after about six months. it works smoothly with the 212 EVO cooler. the chip itself isn’t a problem. i haven’t pushed it much beyond what the software allows—just a simple "one click OC" which was fine for me.
seems no need to upgrade anytime soon, probably not for another year or more.
I just acquired an i7 4790k at a good rate, so I shouldn't need to replace the whole motherboard, RAM, or CPU for several more years.
