I've been using a 4.5ghz overclocked i5 4690k for years without issues. Recently, I bought several computer components, including an i7 4770 non-K model. I'm wondering which one performs better for gaming—my tests so far favor the 4770 in Cinebench, but my 3D mark score has decreased, particularly in combined tests. I intend to try it out in some real-world games tonight and wanted to hear what others think.

The outcome will vary based on the game.

If I were making the choice, I'd pick the 4770 since newer titles usually need extra resources for smooth performance. Hyperthreading provides a solid efficiency gain and helps reduce lag. Not all games will appreciate it, but most players would benefit from it.

I spent about five hours gaming this evening and feel the game leans more toward higher clock speeds with extra threads. I’m not overly concerned—I can shuffle them around and check my performance.

I don't play games, but I can help you find ones to try! What kind of games are you interested in?
