overclock MSI HD 5450
overclock MSI HD 5450
i own an msi hd 5450 that my dad purchased for his old computer about ten years ago. since my current card failed, i plan to buy a new one soon. i’m currently using this one. my question is why in msi afterburner the maximum boost is limited to 520 mhz core clock? this is the first time i’ve tried overclocking anything, and i need your advice. i saw on youtube people claiming they can push it up to 1000 mhz, but here i’m stuck at around 520mhz. here’s a picture: https://ibb.co/2s4ysp5
Did you turn off the overclocking restrictions? And most importantly, did your card function properly when those limits were disabled and frequencies were increased? If not, then the silicon lottery wasn’t on your side—consider upgrading to a better GPU.
In reality, this approach appears to be one of the more difficult ways to render an old GPU inoperable for card owners. A simpler solution would be to destroy it with force.
Not too long ago:

they all manage to boost it to 1000MHz, but I can't reach over 520 why?
Is this the same way they did it? It's five years old and uses an operating system you're unlikely to be using now.
Are all GPUs identical? Some remain restricted at the BIOS setting. Have you adjusted the afterburner settings to enable overclocking?
Yes, you turned off the overclocking restrictions. Was your card able to function without those limits and at higher speeds? If not, then the silicon lottery wasn’t on your side—consider upgrading to a better GPU.
