I was looking at CPUs recently and compared the I5 2400 with the I3 8100. Since the I3 has a higher CPU GHz speed, I wondered if it's safe to overclock the I5 2400 to around 3.8 GHz instead of the I3. My concern is whether doing so would be feasible without worrying about overheating. I'm not very familiar with computers, but I'd like to know if I can overclock an I5 without a cooling system in mind.

No, you shouldn't try to overclock an i5 (the "k" model) unless you have a suitable CPU cooler.

Why not? Choose a better cooler since the box isn't great. I used my own i5 2400 (not K) and received these results.
