Hello, I own a Benq XL2720-B 144hz monitor made in April 2014. It began showing flickering recently, and I’m trying to decide whether to discard it or try a fix. The problem appeared suddenly one day, and despite changing power cables, updating drivers, adjusting refresh rates, and performing factory resets (including holding the power button for 10–20 seconds), it still didn’t work. I tested it on another PC, but it failed completely (connected via HDMI). I’m seeking advice from someone familiar with common causes and solutions. I’m curious if this is worth repairing and what the estimated cost would be for a home fix. The screen shows signs of aging, like a dark spot at the bottom and brighter top areas. More details on refresh rate testing: checked 144,120,90 and 60 rates, but results weren’t precise. Also tried various resolutions without success. 050820232040199120230805_203045_out.mp4
Started with basic checks! It seems the cable and monitor panel aren’t the problem. (If it flickers with DVI-D, HDMI, and DisplayPort, that’s a clue.) Things to Try: Switch all inputs one by one to see if the issue stays. What’s Behind It: Assuming it happens with every input, I’d point to faulty capacitors in the backlight driver circuit. These often fail in monitors, especially high-refresh-rate LED-backlit models, causing flickering or complete backlight loss while the display stays functional. While I’m not a tech expert, it’s likely a simple capacitor swap if you’re handy enough. These screens often have similar issues, as noted elsewhere.
I appreciate the help. I plan to identify the issues and look for suitable replacements. Someone with soldering experience will assist me.
