I have a 32GB DDR4 4GB/s kit and a Patriot Viper Steel 64GB (2x16GB) at 3200MHz. I’m considering upgrading to a 64GB model to reach double the capacity, but I want to confirm it will still function in dual-channel mode. Is it safe to purchase a similar 64GB kit, or should I opt for a full 64GB unit instead? Thanks ahead!
Are you sure about this? Could these drives have unique components or differences?
There might be issues because the same model RAM can include various ICs with different traits. However, 3200 is a slowbin and all RAM ICs seem to use it, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about mismatches. The main difference is probably a minor chance rather than a major problem—just plug and play should work.
It should function properly. If timing differences occur, it will fall back to the slower one, and I anticipate you might face challenges when overloading it, but if you intend to run it at its maximum capacity, everything should work as expected.
