Seeking options around £10k that won’t slow a 1070 unless the 10400 is already limiting. The 10400 serves as a starting point, but we’re aiming for i5 compatibility—if an i3 works fine with the 1070, I’m considering it too. Please suggest only Intel parts.

The Ryzen 3600 faces strong competition from the 10400. It's affordable in the UK under £100 on eBay, and offers more upgrade options.

Intel's offerings are the best here. A 12100F matches the performance of a 10400 and stays below 100. If you're open to AMD, you'd find better options like the 5500 or 3600, which excel in multi-threaded tasks.

Just what I was given to work with, either i5 or i7. Think I've decided that custom built is going to be a bit too expensive though. Kind of locked into certain higher end parts with a 1070 so I'll look into some prebuilt's and suggest those. But the 12100 is a great choice thanks for suggesting it.
