Some straightforward options for macOS in 2023 are worth considering. Many users find Parallels Desktop difficult to manage, especially when you’re new or need quick access. Instead, look into alternatives that let you run Windows games directly on your Mac without the hassle of translation or extra steps. One simple choice is Steam’s native support for macOS, which works seamlessly once you install it and set up the necessary drivers. Another option is using a lightweight virtual machine like VMware or Parallels’ own virtualization tools, though they may require more setup. If you prefer a no-fuss experience, consider cloud-based gaming services that stream games directly to your Mac, eliminating the need for local installation.

The nearest option is VmWare Fusion. The other choice is UTM, though it feels more suited to technical audiences rather than everyday users.

Boot camp doesn't exist due to ARM technology. What looks like VMWare Fusion is the current alternative, while Parallels now gets more backing from Apple. If you rely heavily on Windows... invest in a reasonably priced machine, similar to what MacIntel promoted around 2015.

Thanks for your feedback. Recent reviews seem varied, but I’m still considering VMWare Fusion. Could anyone share their experience with using CrossOver on M1? It’s noted that the perpetual license is costly, yet it offers a lifetime subscription and is more economical over time compared to Parallels or VMWare. Additionally, unlike Parallels and CrossOver, I don’t need to purchase a Windows license, which aligns with their performance claims.

Crossover isn't a virtualizer, but something akin to WINE. It's different from the sauce. Also: using a Mac with ARM SoC for gaming via Steam on M1? You've probably never tried turning forklifters into race cars or a speedster into a truck. In short, currently you can only play games on your Mac with Apple-provided titles, which might not be very exciting. If you have another machine and want to stream games from elsewhere, Parsec could be useful. If you're after a dedicated gaming setup, Steam Deck isn't ideal but might offer what you need: Steam.

Nothing actually replaces Parallels in capability. Crossing over might work for some apps, but compatibility remains inconsistent and often needs tricky workarounds. Updates can break things that previously functioned perfectly. In short, Mac isn’t ideal for simple gaming unless you stick to games that fit.

Thank you for your feedback. VmWare Fusion isn't appealing because it comes with high licensing costs and lacks a genuine perpetual license option, while also performing worse than Parallels. Parallels remains the top choice for running Windows on Mac, as it's backed by both Apple and Microsoft—Microsoft even recommends it and sells it in select Apple stores. Crossover could still be a viable option if you're familiar with the games you wish to play; setting it up isn't as daunting as it seems. Crossover boasts an active, supportive community and a solid compatibility list: https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility. I’ll give CrossOver a shot, as its compatibility ratings are strong for the games I plan to run (mostly older titles). If the free trial doesn’t meet my expectations, I’ll switch to GeForce NOW—especially since the electricity costs in Sweden are extremely high, making it a cost-effective alternative.

OP, you and the other posters are right that CrossOver is *the* way to play Windows games on a Mac. The other option though, is to buy him a couple of Mac native games. I mostly play games on my Windows PC, but when I play on my M1 Max Mac Studio Dead Cells, Cuphead, Minecraft, No Man's Sky, Spiritfarer, and Stardew Valley all play like a dream. They're all Mac native (though not ARM) and run perfectly.
