Hey there! I've just started playing Star Citizen and plan to try Elite Dangerous later. I'm looking for games that offer similar experiences—like cargo transport, bounty hunting, and good control options. I prefer something recent with solid joystick support, though I know it might be a short-lived title. I've already tried X Rebirth and didn't like it. Let me know what you think!

I prefer a game where I can control the ship directly, though it might be helpful to offer Eve alternative options. I attempted two times but never completed any of the tutorial missions.

Recent matches? Yeah, they’re going to be tough. Space sim or ship games aren’t exactly the same as FPS titles, but here are some ideas. Chris Roberts’ earlier titles are a good place to start. The Freelancer, StarLancer, and Wing Commander series still hold up. "X" series might not be your cup of tea, but there are a few others worth checking. Mostly single-player experiences, not identical to Star Citizen, but they offer some core features. "Starpoint Gemini 2" is a beta release—early access. "Galaxy under Fire 2" is a fun arcade-style ship game where you can mine, hunt, drive taxis, and manage merchants to save the galaxy. Plus a few laughs in the gameplay. Side note: Space Engineers is entertaining, though it feels more like Minecraft on a cosmic scale. It’s constantly updated!

Thanks for the feedback. I considered Freelancer but didn’t like the lack of first-person perspective. Regarding the Wing Commander series, they feel outdated and I tried Wing Commander Saga but prefer more open-world options—still excited about Squadron 42. Maybe I should check out Starlancer and the two games you mentioned. For space engineer, I enjoyed the Minecraft-inspired elements. Appreciate the names you gave me; I’m eager to explore more now!

Hello, welcome! It seems the older Elite titles are also available as an alternative.

I stopped my choice on Freelancer, couldn't find it on Steam nor Gog so you know how I got it... Anyway, I looked at the other games and they all looked too old, didn't have the open world aspect or were WAY too arcady for me to enjoy them. I had to install daemon tools to install the game, it took 20seconds to install and now it takes fucking 20 minutes to uninstall wtf ? I digress, thanks for your help. I won't play this game for long anyway, just have to wait for the Elite Dangerous standard beta

TBH there's nothing like star citizen. The only thing that's close is wing commander and that was back in the 90s.

Evochron Mercenaries is an interesting game I've played. It's available on Steam.
