Hey everyone, I noticed some folks had issues with Origin's account security recently. I checked my emails last night and saw my main email changed for my Origin account. After resetting it, I logged in and found my profile picture, country, and security question updated to a German one. It seems that even with the password, Origin lets anyone modify these details. Have you had similar problems with Origin or other online accounts? Any tips or experiences would be appreciated!

Yes, my account was compromised earlier. However, the problem was addressed via customer support chat. That happened before the introduction of two-factor authentication.

I agree, it's really exposed in terms of security. My account was hijacked by someone from Poland. I reached out to EA about the problem, and they were able to restore it. Now I'm constantly receiving security code emails, almost every few days, even after the fix was applied. Both EA and Origin should improve their efforts.

I haven’t faced any problems with my Origin account. I’d suggest focusing on improving your own security instead of pointing fingers at Origin. Just enabling two-factor authentication would be a simple step to protect your account, even if the backend isn’t secure. Origin can only assist when you take action yourself.

Absolutely in line with @KuJoe, a strong password should be long and complex. Using a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols makes it much harder to crack. Avoid simple passwords or common words. Aim for at least 16 characters and consider unique combinations. This approach is more effective than random short strings.

In my view, allowing someone to modify protective measures with minimal verification is weak security. Despite any frustration you feel, it was a mistake I made by leaving 2-step disabled (I had to turn it off and then forgot to re-activate it). I’ve now turned it back on, and I hope this issue doesn’t return.

They don't seem to have the password. I'm confident I've reset both my password and security question before, without needing any verification via their online chat.

EA restricts passwords to a maximum of 16 characters, which is a clear issue.

I wasn't meaning that, I was just talking about using a good password. Because most hacks involving passwords without a leaked database are normally from a password database and cracker. Which can be mitigated by using a good password and changing it every 90-180 days. That is a serious problem. They need to update their security standards. There was a guy who made a test setup (home system specs) and cracked passwords 20 characters long. Not even normal ones either within a day. So, quite bad.

I just went through this. My old, unused SWTOR account was targeted first, which allowed them to update the email for my original account.
