The question focuses on choosing the right borderlands to play and the best sequence to grasp the lore. I’ll also consider any essential DLCs for the narrative.

The stories are just pop culture nods that won't last long.

Chronologically: Borderlands 1 - Pre-Sequel - 2 - Tales from the Borderlands (spin-off following the events of 2)

The story is mostly just for fun, don't stress about it.

It's clear to begin with the initial version and conclude with Borderlands 3.

A lot of the DLC is just for looks and doesn't really change the main game or story, but it's enjoyable if you enjoy the characters and gameplay. I got it during a discount period but haven't completed it yet.

I've been eyeing Borderlands 2 on my wishlist for about four years, always hooked when it's on sale but never actually purchasing it. This time around, I'm going to wait a bit longer.
