I find it helpful to keep my desktop icons neatly arranged so I always know their place. Usually, I hide them and use a shortcut on my mouse to reveal them when needed. However, updating my Nvidia drivers or adjusting resolution often causes my icons to shift unpredictably, forcing me to reorder them. This has become quite frustrating. Do you have a tool or method that lets you save your icons in a specific location so they can be restored if moved?

Have you ever attempted to conceal your icons, then update them and later remove that restriction? It’s something I’ve considered. I’m not sure if it would help, but I’ve faced the same problem as you and often overlook trying it. In the end, I ended up saving them into various folders, though I still like keeping everything on my desktop.

I've already tried that, but once I unhide them they keep moving as if they were never hidden. Keeping them in folders would be better, though I don't want to add extra clicks to launch a program or game.

IconRestorer is a tool I rely on. It helped fix issues where icons would reset unexpectedly. It saved me from many frustrations.

Check compatibility with Windows 8.1. It seems likely since it functions on Windows 7, but confirm the details.

I rely on barriers. Adjustments in the settings don't alter the fence details. This tool is quite useful overall, so I strongly suggest it.

I've always been smooth with this tool. It stores your icon positions based on your screen size and background wallpaper. You can make "snapshots" for various arrangements—possibly even different setups for each resolution. Just experiment a bit. I doubt it would function well with 8.1; the tiles look distinct from static icons, but you should check the latest specs since updates might have occurred since I started using it.

I experimented with it for a while and it functions well. Sometimes moving my icons causes them to lag or reset after restoring, which seems like a Windows 8 compatibility problem. Regardless, I’ll continue using it moving forward. Thanks a lot!
