I don't understand why the z690 motherboards have dropped in price so much. But I won't complain.
It remains a top-tier chipset even though it's from an older generation now. With a BIOS update, it can run the newest 14th gen processors.
Even with a 12400f, it's likely significantly better than many B760 boards.
Completely in agreement. I recently purchased my first Intel box, securing a discount on an open-box MSI Z690 Pro WiFi board, which came with a 12600kf. This board has been one of the best I've had so far.
Verify the power supply unit. If it's 650W, it's likely the gray Corsair CX. However, if you think it's a 600W model marked green, you're essentially giving away your friend's trash for free.
The B660M claims compatibility with 14th generation CPUs, but there seems to be confusion about its actual capabilities. It's unclear why it would not deliver sufficient power for such a processor. This situation appears to be based on incorrect information.
You can use an i5-12400f, but be aware it only delivers 65w to the CPU. That’s significantly less than what you’d expect for that processor. The website mentions support for 14th generation, so it’s technically compatible, though performance may be limited. Your build might still work, but results could be affected.
The Microcenter combo you mentioned is being discussed across multiple threads, causing confusion.
