I don't know where else to request content for the Youtube channel but... Anyone who's played No Mans Sky in VR knows that there's simply no going back to flat screen. Yet, VR performance is all over the place. People running 2060s report good performance, while others with monster 4080s say it's unplayable. We really need an objective and knowledgeable deep dive into what makes a good No Mans Sky VR rig!!! Pretty please with a cherry on top. I'm on my frikkin knees begging. I just want to know what will work so I don't waste more time and money trying to figure it out. The latest NMS update apparently takes a lot of pressure off the CPU and puts it on the GPU now. With such a big change in how it runs - I figured now would be the best time to do it. Thanks in advance!

There are varying standards for what feels smooth and what feels too slow. Some users tolerate around 45-60 frames per second, while others struggle even at 120 FPS. Choosing the right VR headset is also tricky because performance depends heavily on resolution, graphical settings, and hardware capabilities. It’s not just about building a setup—it’s about balancing quality and comfort.

I completely grasp that perspective, which is why I’d value a more neutral analysis. Also, coming from a technical standpoint, the efforts from the community have mostly resembled alchemy.

Absolutely! You're here for more than just a quick peek—you're aiming to create a system capable of No Mans Sky VR or enhance your existing setup.

I used to be able to run everything smoothly on low settings. It wasn’t perfect, but it worked. After the update, it became completely unplayable. I’m looking for an upgrade but don’t want to spend too much since I can’t find clear solutions. I’m aiming for a mid-range budget. I’m not expecting major improvements—just enough to get things running. My current setup is a Z390 motherboard with a 1080 Ti GPU, so most components would need a refresh.

I’ve thought about the A770 16GB... but I’ve heard it can have problems with certain games, so I’m not very excited about it.

Got it! The 1080Ti still has some power but feels a bit lacking. A mid-range price varies—some say around $1000, others $1700. If you share a more specific budget, we can compile a parts list together.

The 1080ti has been outstanding. It's an excellent workhorse. The key is it begins to struggle at 4k, especially with VR. For stable performance, you'll need around 72-90fps even at higher resolutions like 1440-4k. Regarding the GPU, I'm considering options up to $500 for a used one (around $750 new). I plan to start with the GPU and then upgrade the CPU and motherboard later based on what tests show. South Africa is fine; I can expand from there. I’ll likely buy something second-hand. My main concern is not fixing NMS performance issues, like VRAM usage. Someone mentioned VRAM is important, so I’m weighing a 3090 or a 4060ti with 16GB. But I’m not sure that person fully understands what they’re discussing.

VRAM plays an increasingly important role in today's gaming. The 3090 offers significant performance over the 4060Ti 16GB. The latter doesn't provide good value either. If you choose the 3090, consider upgrading your PSU (I'm not sure what you have). This card is power-intensive and experiences many temporary power spikes. I don’t know what’s available on the used market in South Africa; it’s rare to see listings like Check 4070, 4070 Supers, or AMD 7800 XT/7900 XT there. For a CPU upgrade, the Ryzen 7600 works well with a budget motherboard, but you’ll need new DDR5 RAM. On the used side, you might find a 5700X3D or 5800X3D combo.
