Optiplex GX 260 compatibility problems
Optiplex GX 260 compatibility problems
I discovered an old Optiplex GX 260 and lightly dusted it from the inside. Still, the monitor goes to sleep even though I can hear the CPU running. I attempted cleaning and re-seating the RAM, taking out the HDD and GPU, but it doesn’t boot. What could be causing this problem?
Check if the top layers of the capacitors on the motherboard appear swollen or have a crusty residue coming out. If so, those caps are likely faulty. This can cause the PC to appear as if it's running while doing nothing, consuming unnecessary power. The Optiplex 200-series was essentially plagued by bad capacitors, and replacing them is often not worth the effort.
Consider a compact model that fits comfortably within the space.
You can use any board you prefer, but keeping it era-appropriate will make it tough to locate a suitable, affordable option.
It's version 260. The standoffs fit the standard Micro ATX positions. You'll need to swap out the power supply, as the original ones had an unusual pin configuration.
I’m not sure which model it is because I’m unfamiliar with hardware, but this appears from the inside.
