Optimized for RTX 2060 performance
Hello everyone, I'm really struggling right now. Last week I swapped my RX5500xt for a new RTX2060OC, but after launching my games, things started going wrong. My average FPS fell from about 45 to around 25. The games would freeze, crash, get stuck, and during intense visual scenes I’d hit just 8 FPS max. I looked into the issue and noticed my GPU usage stays low—usually between 30-50%, sometimes up to 60 or even 80—but never at 99%. My old CPU is an i5-4460, which isn’t a problem since it reaches 70-80% usage too. I’ve heard online that a weak PSU could be the cause, but I doubt it because my CPU has a 500W rating, which meets the minimum needed for RTX2060. I’ve tried running DDU, reinstalling drivers, checking temperatures (which were normal), and everything else seems fine, but nothing works. It feels like I spent nearly 1000 dollars with no results. My PC specs are: Intel Core i5-4460 @ 3.20GHz, 24 GB RAM (23.9 GB free), 64-bit OS, x64 processor. Please help me, thank you.
It seems like the issue might be related to RAM speed. If you can boost the RAM, that could help. Otherwise, you're probably facing a limitation.
I'll disable and reinstall one of the games with poor frame rates to check if the issue lies with its setup or your hardware. You won't be able to draw definitive conclusions about GPU usage since your CPU is outdated, has only four threads, and performance will vary depending on the game.
Older or faulty power supply units can lead to problems, but they might also trigger other hardware issues if the computer doesn't shut down completely. To investigate further, use HWiNFO or GPU-z to identify the specific reason for the PerfCap error—HWiNFO provides detailed yes/no options while GPU-z simply states the issue.
The image appears to show a rendering or preview, but without context it's hard to verify accuracy. Let me know if you need further clarification.
Also, I reinstalled the problematic game and nothing has changed.
Based on the details provided, I believe there might be a CPU bottleneck issue. Even if the CPU isn't fully utilized, it's possible a single thread could be consuming all resources in the game. Windows typically distributes tasks to balance performance, but certain games like DX11 rely on a single-threaded renderer, which can affect how threads are managed. To confirm GPU performance, consider running a demanding benchmark such as 3DMark Time Spy or Unigine Superposition.
