My setup includes these details: EK-AIO Elite 360 D-RGB i9 9900k, 32 GB GSKILL-TRIDENT Z RAM, MSI 2080 Ti gaming motherboard, quiet 1000W power supply. I recently applied fresh thermal paste and stress-tested the system using Cinebench R23 a week ago. At that time, temperatures stayed between 75–85°C with all six AIO fans running at maximum and the pump also at full speed. After playing AC Odysee, which reached up to 69°C, temperatures jumped to around 90°C. After retesting with Cinebench R23, I now see temps reaching up to 100°C, causing the CPU to throttle to maintain stability. Power usage climbs to about 140W during normal boost clocks, dropping to roughly 104W when throttling occurs. I’m confused about why the temperatures spiked suddenly and aren’t stabilizing further, especially with this cooling setup. I need guidance or fixes.

Is there any unusual sound coming from the pump? It could be damaged, but that's improbable; it's still worth inspecting.

The pump operates smoothly without any rattling sounds and meets its specifications at the intended RPM. However, when starting the system in the monring with the pump set to 50% idle, a bubbling noise appears. This indicates air entering after the pump starts up briefly, and the bubble sound disappears once the pump stabilizes. For your reference, the radiator is positioned above the pump in the top of the case, which should prevent air issues.

The pump's specifications indicate a speed range from 1000 to 3300 RPM, meaning the additional RPM should stay within that window. Even when operating at full capacity, the thermal throttling issue remains unchanged.

it still feels like the AIO has some extra stuff in it... I own a 9900k but pair it with custom water cooling and two 2080ti GPUs. I only clean and flush it every couple of years. Now your AIO looks brand new, and EK is generally reliable—you could send them a sample if you think this is normal. I’d test it on another system if you have one available to confirm it’s the same model.

The thermal paste you used might be the issue. Check the type and application method. At high temps, some pastes can ooze away, reducing coverage on the CPU.

After turning off the system overnight and restarting, temperatures returned to 75°C under maximum load using Cinebench R23. This change shouldn't be attributed to the radiator's thermal capacity, as I noticed the radiator yesterday and today, and at least I didn’t sense any noticeable difference in heat between hot and cold ends.
