Optimize performance with the right CPU, Mobo, and RAM setup.
Hello, I’m planning to refresh my setup: GPU 1080, upgrade planned when funds allow. My main use is VR for sim racing (iRacing) and playing FPS games, plus occasional work tasks like report writing, basic AutoCAD, and some Photoshop. iRacing is extremely demanding on resources and CPU, as noted in a Reddit discussion. The rendering thread is identified as the main bottleneck because of DX11’s performance limits. With a budget around $1,700 (AUD) or $1,148.95 (USD), I’m leaning toward Intel CPUs but considering Ryzen for potential gains. My current system has lasted about six years with a GPU and RAM upgrade, so I’m hoping similar longevity from this change. If I pick the 3900X or 9900K, which are budget-friendly options, which one offers better long-term reliability? Also, I need guidance on selecting a motherboard—search results seem scattered, and I want something practical with good support, USB ports, and durability. I’m considering the Gigabyte Aorus Master but it’s pricey. Overclocking is something new to me, so I’d appreciate advice on that too. For RAM, I’m open to spending more if it brings noticeable speed improvements, though I’m not very familiar with frequencies or how CPU and motherboard affect usage. Please help me decide the best CPU + motherboard combo within this budget. Thanks for your time!
