I’m looking for a quicker method to move files between iPadOS and Windows. Right now I use Google Drive via Chrome on Windows and the My Files app on iPad. I want something faster than that. I don’t have an iMac or MacBook, so AirDrop isn’t available. Any suggestions would be great!

You could always create a shared folder on your PC and link it to your iPad as a network drive. Naturally this only functions if both devices are connected to the same network, but it would likely be much quicker and easier than using GDrive.

For a classic setup, use a quick USB-C drive.

Syncthing functions properly (with the SyncTrayzor app on the PC side and Mobius sync app on the iOS side). As expected with iOS, it might stop running after some time in the background, but tapping the app restarts the sync. Transfers are P2P and very quick when connected locally.

The optimal method is to set up a common folder on your PC and then use the files app to link to it. No extra programs are needed. Steps to follow: Begin by turning on network discovery on your PC. Use Windows Search to find "sharing" and open the relevant window. Click the "Private" option in the dropdown. Adjust your settings to match the required configuration. To establish a shared folder, create a folder (or pick an existing one), right-click it, go to Properties, choose the sharing tab, and click Share. Add or select your user and assign the necessary permissions (typically read/write). Next, obtain your IP address. Launch Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), navigate to the Performance tab, select your network interface, and locate your IPv4 address on the right. In the files app on your iPad, tap the three dots and select "Connect to Server". Enter the format "smb://<IP address>" followed by your credentials for the chosen account. Once connected, the shared folder should appear on your iPad. Adding files from your PC will then update there. Let me know if this assists you.

It keeps crashing on the iOS version. When I try Samba shares, the iPad usually can't connect and has to be restarted to resolve the issue...

IKR! I have already created a thread for that issue myself.. The issue I face is "0 items Read Only" being shown, and I think this is what you're talking about. I've observed that this usually occurs when you try to access the shares when the server/PC is down. So I usually avoid trying to accidentally connect when its down. And the only way I have found to solve this issue is by literally trying to reconnect to the shares like 30 times. But when it works, its just really good. You don't have to save it to your device first, then move it to the shares. You don't have to use any third party apps. You can just directly throw it onto the shared folder. I usually have to scan documents with HP Smart(because why not) and have to save it to my server. Its just so much easier to directly put that file onto the shared folder rather than mailing it to yourself or methods alike.

For me it's just showing an empty window, and there's nothing to force reconnect. I haven't tried in a while becasue it was so broken, but maybe iOS updates have improved since. It seemed to be that if the server went down anytime after connecting it wouldn't reconnect without rebooting the iPad. The server is my main PC, which gets turned off at night, so if I one day connect the iPad to the share, turn the server off at night, the next day the iPad just won't reconnect. Syncthing works fine though and I'm already using it on all my devices so no prob, if I want to transfer something I just throw it in a shared folder and it's there in seconds.
