Hello, I need to replace the CPU in my Ryzen 5 3400G. I'm experiencing inconsistent frame rates in most games, which is frustrating. I have a budget that isn't limited, but I'd prefer something more affordable. My goal is to maintain around 240+ FPS in CS2, even on low settings. I considered upgrading to the R9 5900X, though I'm worried about excessive heat from the VRM. My current setup includes an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G, a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Aero OC, 8GB GDDR6 RAM, and a Corsair CV650 650W power supply with 80+ Bronze certification. Thanks for your help!

I don't believe it's possible with that setup. Even using a 4090 in Gamers Nexus' latest CPU tests, the 5800X3D couldn't hit a minimum of 240 FPS in CS2 at 1080p or low settings—though the lowest performance was above this at 270 FPS. The 5600X managed about 351 FPS on average, but its 1% and 0.1% drops were significantly lower (201.5 and 165.4 respectively).

You have a 4060, it doesn’t take a lot to drive that. A 5600/5700 would work fine. On the extreme side, a 5800X3D is great. But let’s clear our minds… I’d prefer lower-end 5000 series X3D chips released around January (or your pick) if you’re looking to splurge on the variants.

I doubt I’d enjoy CS in 16:9 format since I’m used to 4:3 (1280x1024) which has been stretched over time; the frame rate should be better than what I’m seeing now.

It seems you're evaluating different GPU models for performance. A 5600 non-X/5600X appears to work well, while the 5900X isn't necessary here. Testing at 1080p/Low showed minor variations, and the 5800X3D outperformed the 5900X significantly.

5600(x) works well with $80. If you have extra money, a newer 5700x3D or a used 5800x3D would be better. The NVIDIA GPU is likely the reason for low input lag, but AMD GPUs usually have less driver overhead, which means less strain on the CPU.

Checking the BIOS updates before purchasing the Ryzen 5700X3D is recommended. The price will likely drop soon.

Based on what you're doing to boost performance, it seems you need a 5x00X3D. Get the cheapest option, because you'll likely have to upgrade again later, especially with a monitor that hits 500+Hz. Also, follow @Dedayog's advice and update your motherboards' UEFI firmware to version 7B84vAJK before shutting down to swap CPUs.
