Optimal processor for large Excel documents with formulas and math
It mainly depends on the specific Excel calculations and formulas used. I frequently work with Excel and build financial models for my tasks. Every day I run calculations involving four separate columns, each with its own formula, and process over 20,000 rows. Then I switch tabs to handle data exceeding 100,000 rows. During these operations, the Status bar shows four threads active, and the computation usually takes 3 to 5 minutes. Although this doesn’t match the expected result, as mentioned before, it’s important to examine your Excel formulas and data flow to determine the required CPU capacity.
Not always perfect usage, but it runs frequently and requires a lot of time. Sometimes I leave it overnight to finish. New Ryzen CPUs might not be available in my area yet, so I should consider building an Intel setup instead. We're currently testing i58265U CPUs on an HP laptop, which is causing performance issues. I'm unsure if the problem is Windows-related or office software. Sometimes adjusting rows with Ctrl + or - takes a long time. New 10 Gen i7 CPUs and compatible components will be released soon. Why? There are many formulas; I believe we need more multi-threading. Excel displays all 8 cores during processing. What other tools are available? Many people rely on Excel the most. Switching isn't an option for me right now. The Ryzen 3000 is a recent CPU, while the FX9000 is outdated. Is that a fair comparison? That would be great, but it's too expensive to get the 4700U. It would be better to purchase a faster desktop soon. Thanks, I'll look into it.
They’re the newest models, but the value doesn’t justify the cost. They function, yet superior alternatives exist.
Yes for basic tasks, but if processing a page takes all night, consider using a specialized business tool or building one if it isn’t available.
I have a similar problem. Please give me a recommendation as well. Here is my taskmanager readout: CPU Intel® Core i7-1065G7 CPU @ 1.30GHz Base speed: 1.50 GHz Sockets: 1, Cores: 4, Logical processors: 8, Virtualization: Enabled L1 cache: 320 KB, L2 cache: 2.0 MB, L3 cache: 8.0 MB, Utilization 100% Speed 3.37 GHz, Up time 8:15:29:56, Processes 267, Threads 3877, Handles 197973 I currently have a macro that searches for matches between 54k+ line items of text through about 1,000+ possible matches with some calcs like, if this work and but not that word... Anyway - what is the best. Mine is not as bad as his, but it will be. Mine is just 25 minutes now. I am looking for what is best not what is cheap.
It was updated over a decade prior to your incorrect statement. Excel supports concurrent processing since 2007—welcome!
