Hello, I'm trying to rejoin GW2 as the new expansion arrives, but I've noticed my ISP is slowing down traffic on both standard and 80. Anyone have suggestions for better ports or IP addresses?

VPN will still show higher latency than usual... Consider using this flag in your GW2 shortcut for SSL? The command instructs the client to link to game servers via port 80 (HTTP) rather than the typical gaming port 6112. Some ISPs slow down traffic on certain ports during specific times, which can improve connections for some users. (It isn't the default since some ISPs also alter port 80 traffic, potentially disrupting the game.) In December 2014 an extra valid argument "443" was introduced; this is the standard HTTPS port and might offer more stability for certain players. We hope port 443 is less prone to changes by ISPs because it usually carries encrypted data that seems like noise to them.

If they discovered a reliable VPN, it might only increase speed by a few milliseconds.

He’d need to locate a reliable VPN service.
