Hello! I’m planning to set up a new PC soon and I’m unsure about the best installation method. I’ve heard you can use an USB drive and Windows Media Maker (or similar) to install Windows and enter a CD key if available. I want to make sure this approach is reliable and safe. Regarding obtaining affordable Windows 10 Pro CD keys, I’m not sure where to find them without violating any rules. Let me know if you’d like more details!

Download USB from Microsoft site and use OEM key or skip activation. Some users prefer avoiding OEM keys altogether.

A legitimate retail key purchased from MS typically costs about $100 USD. Some places such as Kinguin may offer it for around $15 USD, though its legality remains uncertain.

Get the Windows installers directly from Microsoft, create a USB version and install without entering any keys. You’ll receive Windows for free, but the personalization features won’t be available—everything will use the standard appearance. A watermark will appear at the bottom reminding you to activate. All updates and functions will work exactly as on the original system. If this isn’t enough, you can purchase a retail version for $100 or obtain an OEM key from sites like eBay, Kinguin, or Gamivo for around $10.

It doesn't fit on a CD, but a DVD would work.

Yes, it's possible. But why do that? You need a DVD, not a CD. Edited February 7, 2019 by noxdeouroboros

The installer requires approximately 3/4GB of space, which means you’d need a 4.7GB DVD. A USB drive doesn’t meet the size requirement.

Sure, you're right about the limitations. A CD is limited to about 768MB, which isn't enough for a full Windows setup. DVDs are better since they can hold around 4.7GB, making it feasible to install everything. Many people now opt for USB drives because they’re simpler and more common than DVDs or CDs. Back in the day, using a DVD was definitely the go-to method.
