You can use a virtual machine to run both OS X and Windows 8 on your Macbook Air. This allows seamless switching between the two operating systems.

Set up the boot camp first, then go through a guide to install Windows via it. I wouldn’t choose Windows 8 since it could cause issues.

Bootcamp, with the newest OS X version, it seems Apple included native Windows 8.1 support in the latest Bootcamp release.

Bootcamp is free and comes built in with macOS — easy to use and lets you restart or switch between operating systems separately. For running both at the same time, options like Parallels, VirtualBox, or VMware Fusion can help you boot into Windows while using OS X. Parallels stands out for its seamless integration mode that unites Windows and macOS together.

If it demands heavy performance, consider a bootcamp focused on rendering or similar tasks. Use VirtualBox instead of Windows. Alternatively, you might explore Wine as an option.
