My maximum limit would depend on balancing performance and stability, but many users find 80-90% sustained is safe for gaming. Since you're already at 85% without noticeable lag, staying under 90% should keep things smooth. The sweet spot often lies around 75-80% depending on your hardware and workload.

It varies by game; in Universe Sandbox versus Tetris, having only a portion of CPU capacity left can prevent smooth performance even at 60 FPS. Once you hit full capacity, the system will slow down temporarily.

Occasionally hit full performance at 100% with a 4.6 ghz 4790k, maintaining frame rate and stability in-game

Perfect is ideal, but I'm currently at 4770K around 60% during play. Keep in mind, CPU speed won't shift much once it reaches 100%. You'll start to see performance peak when the game slows or frames drop. It's time to reduce your streaming settings.

It shouldn’t be too difficult for streaming, but adding more cores improves performance. I needed a 10-core Xeon just to play Minecraft smoothly beyond basic settings.

It had to be something serious, clearly anything could play Minecraft.

No problem. A fully custom setup with no extra software or malware. I kept all my drivers installed and there were no conflicts. Many people overlook how the render engine in Minecraft isn't well optimized, making it tough to hit 60 frames per second on a GTX 760.
