Optimal configuration for broadening Wi-Fi coverage.
The router is located in my roommate's bedroom on the third floor of a townhouse. I reside in the basement. The connection works reasonably well, but signal quality can dip sometimes. I also use a VPN, which still causes issues even without it. I’m evaluating three options: - Maintain the current setup; the extra reliability might not justify a minor speed drop. - Purchase an affordable Wi-Fi extender; this should boost signal strength while possibly affecting performance slightly. I’ve tried them at a previous workplace to improve coverage and create better network segmentation, which helped reduce those frustrating moments when someone accidentally printed on another room’s printer. They seemed reliable enough, so it could work for my needs too. - Acquire a router and switch it to wireless repeater mode. Performance gains are uncertain, but it might let me run the VPN through the router instead of each device, which could simplify things. A good router is more expensive than a repeater though.
