Amidst the excitement about Baldur's Gate 3, I’m eager to revisit the classics. It feels like the isometric RPG world was overlooked in the early 2000s when I started gaming. Now I’m curious: how should a new player approach Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 in 2023? Should I opt for the Enhanced Edition or try original games with some modifications (like adjusting for modern display settings)? I’ve seen cases where so-called “better” versions turn out to be inferior compared to originals plus mods (such as HoMM 3 HD edition) or even just the original titles. My goal isn’t perfection—it’s simply to enjoy the story and gameplay.
Just a reminder that for version three you should have no prior knowledge! Regarding gameplay, the updated edition of one is suggested. For two, the narrative remains unchanged but with technical improvements and quality-of-life adjustments. There are a few modifications, but overall it stays similar to the original, incorporating about 99% of the features from the mods, while keeping things straightforward as the enhanced editions already cover most of them.
