Hey everyone! There's this guy on Facebook marketplace selling his entire build, which consists of the following parts:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
COOLER: Azza Blizzard 360mm AIO
RAM: G-Skill 32GB (no timings or speed specified)
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3080 10GB OC
Case: Lian Li O11 (comes with 6 140mm fans)
Motherboard: not specified
He wants 1000€ for it.
My cousin is very inclined to buy it, since his current build is my old one from 2013, and he asked for my opinion as well. He's gonna game at 1440p, and use it only for gaming.
I advised him to save up a bit more and build a whole new AM5 system, with brand new parts, since that's what I would do.
His plan is to sell the RTX 3080 for around 500€ and upgrade to an RX 6950 XT or a 7900 XT.
I'd love to hear your guys' opinion on it, some outside knowledge and feedback is always appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

I take my opinion lightly since I'm not the sharpest in the shed.
The construction appears decent, but I usually prefer not to purchase someone else's build because you can't be sure of its age or any hidden issues. Plus, there might be missing manuals or parts. With the build you mentioned, it doesn't mention RAM speeds—fast memory is better than slow, and SSDs are a must. I'd agree he should invest more and build his own system.
In terms of power, it's quite similar to my setup and should handle most tasks smoothly, even at high resolutions.

If you apply the $500 discount for the 3080, it's difficult to determine if the remaining components are worth another $500. You probably don't need water cooling for a lower-end CPU, so what value do you give it? Buying air cooled in a cheaper case could make it seem like you can purchase all those parts for $500. You're not sure how much less you'd save on used items.

Absolutely! I agree with the same view when it comes to purchasing used builds from others.
For me, it's a significant risk because you never know how the components have been handled or treated, as you also pointed out.
I've managed to persuade him to wait a little longer, save up a bit more, and then I'll assist him in building his new PC.
Thanks for the quick response!

Agreed. We really don<|pad|>, we don't even know the state of things, it's not worth the risk for me. And you're correct about being able to purchase all those parts new for around 500€ (with air cooling), I believe it's definitely possible right now. He'll wait another month or two before getting everything brand new.

Don't overlook a HIGH-QUALITY PSU! Likely from Tier A or B in this list.

What is the model and age of the psu? If it isn't a reliable one, avoid purchasing. An air conditioner will eventually stop working and should be replaced. Plan for about five years.
