Hi everyone, I'm considering purchasing three Unifi G3 cameras for surveillance. Since I'm on a budget, I don't want to add extra costs by buying an Ubiquiti NVR to handle recording and remote access. I've searched online but haven't found clear guidance on running these cameras without a dedicated NVR—especially on Linux or Windows systems. I also have a Synology NAS that might support compatible software. The only update I've seen is that remote viewing was previously possible, but it seems Ubiquiti has stopped offering this feature. TL;DR: I need all camera features—recording and remote viewing—without spending another $500 AUD on extra hardware. If this isn't the right focus, feel free to suggest another angle.

Need an Ubiquiti CloudKey Gen 2 Plus paired with Unifi Protect or a Dream Machine Pro equipped with the required cameras. The Ubiquiti Video Controller is no longer functional and lacks support.

Most common IP cameras outside activation services that deliver MJPEG, H.264 or H.265 streams should function well. Amcrest and Axis cameras consistently perform well. Review Surveillance Station’s support page to find out which cameras they’ve tested.
