The issue seems to depend on how the server handles local versus remote IP addresses. Using the local 192 IP lets you connect to your NAS without VPN, but when trying to reach media services like Sonarr or CouchPotato, they don’t respond. The ports appear to be forwarded correctly, yet access fails. You’re likely seeing a problem with network routing or service configuration when using the remote IP instead of the local one.

You can access the NAS without a VPN, and the PC should also work without it. The available protocols on the PC are likely standard ones like TCP/IP or specific application services.

You're asking if you thought someone might assume you're using the VPN when you're not, and whether that points to a problem with the VPN instead of the software itself. The situation likely means the program isn't functioning properly, not the connection.

Everything functions smoothly on-site. Problems appear when trying to connect remotely. OpenVPN setup is straightforward from the remote side. NAS and PC aren't linked to the VPN on the router—only the NAS can be reached via its local IP address, while the PC isn't. Both PC and NAS are connected to the VPN, allowing access through the VPN's IP address. However, SABnzbd is only reachable on the PC, whereas sonarr and couch potato aren't. I haven't explored RDP yet.
