Someone can suggest a free and simple cloning tool. Before you ask, I won’t install anything new on Windows since we don’t have the CD key and my dad has too many files to sort manually.

Clonezilla is open-source, quick, and reliable. Start it using a DVD. View some tutorials to become comfortable with the interface.

It's just an HDD with no case. I've always kept it in a simple, unprotected container.
