Hello, I've faced a similar issue while assembling an old system. The boot process works with less than 8GB RAM, but Windows won't load even when you claim 8GB. PC shows +8GB but fails to start. Motherboard appears fine and boots into BIOS without issues. I've tried updating the BIOS, reseating the CPU (checked pins, none bent), swapping memory (2*2GB, 2*4GB, etc.), and even shutting it down. My guess is the IMC on the chip might be damaged by age, making it resistant to extra memory. I have an X3450 in the mail and would appreciate any advice before deciding on the motherboard.
It's just a second CPU for a media center or basic gaming. The Xeon is a solid choice for a 2/4GB GPU, though I'm unsure about the exact bit format. It was found used with 4GB RAM, but I couldn't complete the installation even with more than 4GB. The system doesn't boot from the SSD and the installation drive isn't working.
Tested on a Linux live USB, identical outcome—PC restarts upon reboot.
