I visited a friend recently to install my B550 BIOS and run the 5900X inside. It worked smoothly with an Athlon 220GE, but the update failed. With the 3700X it booted fine. Once I added the 5900X, a POST screen appeared, then F2 brought me into BIOS where I saw a black screen labeled A9. This was odd and confusing. I tried connecting a SATA SSD to SATA3_5, but it didn’t recognize it. The issue stemmed from an M.2 drive in a slot that blocks SATA3_5 and SATA3_6. When the drive worked, I managed to enter BIOS. Switching to SATA3_1 helped me access Windows, but I couldn’t get into BIOS again—still A9. Removing the M.2 didn’t help, so I inserted it in the Gen 4 slot to avoid that problem. Eventually, booting into Windows was possible once more, and I got into the BIOS successfully. The SATA boot SSD and hard drives now used SATA3_3-6 instead of the original plan, which would let me add another M.2 later if needed. It seems there might be a software glitch or bug with this board’s BIOS that could be fixed. I’m wondering if reporting it would be wise, or if I’m misunderstanding something.
