I enhanced my home PC during testing and faced no problems (just moved the start menu back to the left—adjustable without any third-party tools). Once on GA, I ran my work laptop and desktop without issues. All upgrades came from Windows 10, not a clean install. I’m currently building a new machine for home use, which will be my first fresh Windows 11 setup. From my side, there’s nothing to worry about—similar to what others say you can’t really tell apart. I believe much of the work has already been completed behind the scenes for Alder Lake support.
It's odd how many worry about the start menu while you barely interact with it. Most of what you rely on is right there on the taskbar, just like in Linux. I still think version 11 offers better control responsiveness than version 10 did.
Well... there might be some issues right now. I haven’t relied on a Windows without problems. How do Microsoft updates address bugs? Like other Windows versions, I assume... Would you like reasons to upgrade or stay with the current version to get the best performance? I can share my thoughts on why not update versus why it might be worth it.
The main reason I needed an update was AutoHDR, as it enhances SDR games significantly.
I'm not alone in this. It's frustrating when things go wrong with your files, especially with something like the Windows Store folder.
Oh yeah I forgot that one, that was another reason my new build was a good thing as Microsoft Flight Simulator refused to update or reinstall on my old machine. I particularly love how sometimes when Windows Store breaks you can't remove stuff any more and the permissions mean you have to format the entire drive its on to get that space back. Even from Linux it says those folders are inaccessible and can't be deleted.
