Only one RAM module works when it's installed in slot A2
I need to identify the issue and see if I should consider swapping parts. You received two RAM modules from the same package, both listed in your motherboard’s QVL. The board itself isn’t compatible with your CPU from the start, but you updated the BIOS using BIOS FlashBack via USB. Now it should work. I checked the CPU socket for bent pins and found none. When testing with one RAM in each slot, the Q-LED stays solid orange for DRAM and solid white for VGA. If you swap one stick to A2 and the other to B2, the light remains white. Enabling DOCP in BIOS causes the PC to fail to boot with just one RAM, requiring a CMOS reset. After installing one stick in A2 and proceeding, the system works fine. The problem seems to be with the BIOS settings or a compatibility quirk. Your specs are correct, and the power supply looks solid.
You might attempt to disable MRC fast boot by looking it up in the BIOS. This will cause the system to load RAM. Consider shutting off Expo for this purpose. If you can, test the RAM in another machine and run a memtest to verify. If you don’t have a backup, borrow someone else’s PC and perform a memory check.
You have some odd Ram sticks! (Apologies if they seem unusual to others) Have you ever used more typical options like 2*16GB? Edited January 17, 2025 by leclod
Uncertain about the meaning of "MRC" but disabling fast boot didn<|pad|>'s effect. Is EXPO identical to DOCP? Since that’s the only adjustable setting I can change, it remains off by default. It appears in the "AI Tweaker" section under "AI Overclock Tuner," offering options like Auto, Manual, DOCP, I/DOCP, and DOCP II. Enabling it also prevents booting and requires clearing CMOS. So far, I’ve run MemTest86 on one stick only—completed without errors and finished quickly. I don’t have another compatible machine to test them on, and no friends can assist. I’m unsure if anything unusual is happening. Regarding size, I needed a lot of RAM without using four sticks because this board only supports dual-channel. I chose the biggest compatible pair to avoid losing speed.
I meant not the quick startup, that's a different topic altogether. There needs to be something named MRC fast boot. Do you have a search bar in the BIOS? Expo refers to AMD's RAM overclock profiles, just like Intel's XMP. Disabling it lets the RAM run at its standard speed and could be more reliable. As @leclod mentioned, it's quite excessive and not typical for a regular gaming PC. A 32GB RAM should suffice.
I have a search field, but it only retrieves the usual quick start option. After adjusting the settings manually, I still couldn't locate anything.
Thanks for the advice. I checked the Memory Context Restore setting but it didn’t help. I looked up more details online and found a helpful discussion: https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/amd-800-se...-p/1065892. The solution was changing "UCLK DIV1 MODE" to "UCLK=MEMCLK". After doing that, I could boot with both sticks and also turned on DOCP, which let them run at full speed without problems.
