Hey there! Welcome back, everyone. I'm new here but have been watching for a while now. I'm assisting a friend who recently got an RTX 3080 second-hand. It came from someone who bought in bulk and later broke. He had it repaired several times by different shops, but it's still functioning properly now. His younger brother’s motherboard worked fine with it, though her older brother couldn’t recognize it as a PCI device. They thought the issue was because the motherboard was PCI Gen 3 while his brother’s was Gen 4. I tried it in one of my Gen 4 systems with an AMD chipset (his brother used Intel), and it performed perfectly. I also ran benchmarks in games without any issues. After updating drivers, everything seemed fine. Eventually, he upgraded to a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, power supply, and even a solid-state drive. I assembled everything for him and tested the card in his case, but it still behaved the same as before. The fan spins slowly but stays above the 35% minimum it should. Power connectors are fine—lighting up confirms they work. Now I’m stuck on troubleshooting. Graphics are working, but the 3080 isn’t really cooperating in this setup. Any suggestions or tests you could run? Here’s what we have: CPU: i5 13600K, Motherboard: NZXT N5 Z690 DDR4, GPU: Asus RTX 3080, RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 (2x16GB, 3200MHz), PSU: CoolerMaster MWE 850 V2, Cooler: DeepCool AK620.

You're asking about what "not work" means in the context of running games or software. It likely refers to whether the system or application is functioning properly, such as games loading correctly or services operating without issues.

My friend is facing the same problems. I shared my 2060 with him, but Windows doesn’t see it properly on his system (5600x), though it works well on mine (11400).

It seems like the system isn't identifying the GPU slot correctly. Currently, we have four motherboards, with two detecting the GPU and the other two not registering it in the PCI slot. Each of those non-detected slots can still run another GPU, such as a GTX 1080, without any issues. The GPU functions properly across all four motherboards.

No GPU meets both ASUS and Founders' edition specifications (NVIDIA). Within the BIOS, adjust PCIe slot configurations to observe potential changes—such as switching between auto and gen 4 or gen 3 settings. You might also lower the x16 lanes to x4. Disabling the integrated graphics (often labeled iGPU multi-monitor) in the BIOS can be another option. Identifying the issue precisely is challenging, but these adjustments may provide some relief. Ensure your BIOS is current for optimal performance.

Consider alternative options and test them out. See how it affects your setup. You might be able to gain access with the GTX 1080 and the 3080 drivers installed.

It seems I was a bit too detailed about the type of fan it is. It’s a one-fan, founder-style model blowing out from the back. I tried adjusting all the PCI-e settings and swapping the slot, but nothing worked. The BIOS is current with the latest updates from NZXT’s site, along with the drivers available there.

Another version is identical, completely lacking any image. It works seamlessly when disabled; I haven't used 3080 drivers with a 1080 card before, but I'm planning to.

I believe you located your GPU—a Asus Turbo GeForce RTX 3080. I saw several Reddit threads and forums mentioning undetectable RTX 3080 cards, often tied to cable issues or failing hardware. I’m running out of ideas. The only advice I can give is to run the card in systems that are detecting it. It’s not ideal, but at least it works better than a dead GPU. Have a great day!
