I was thinking about purchasing GTA 5 for my PC, but I've been worried by the amount of information I've seen about hackers and players being wrongly banned. I don’t plan to cheat or alter the game, but I don’t want to miss out on the online experience just because Rockstar hasn’t looked into a situation. Is this still a major problem? Are there legitimate ways to stay in the game? What does the removal process involve? I own the game on my PS3 and have received mod money a few times without any issues. I’m aware it’s likely unavoidable, since you often get called out in public after missions and heists. Thanks in advance.
My worry isn't about being bothered, but about being mistakenly removed. I understand the rules inside out.
From about 20hrs of online mode I've only encountered a hacker once, so I wouldn't worry too much.
The individuals asking for money are significantly more bothersome. If you find yourself in a lobby with a cheater, I’d just switch to another group. I haven’t come across any reports of players being banned. I’ve used the banhammer twice and only pointed out a player when it was clearly the cheater. I don’t believe many people actually report players because it’s not as straightforward as in games like Rocket League.
Absolutely, loading times are really slow. I’ve learned a few ways to improve that after tweaking my network for the PS3. It’s been possible to switch from single-player to online in under 30 seconds on Wi-Fi. That’s encouraging. Probably most of what I’ve noticed comes from how the game was originally designed. Did you purchase the title via Steam or Rockstar? It’s hard to say which is better. Steam would be handy, but I didn’t catch the sale.
Create a support ticket on their forum regarding the incident where I received stolen funds. Ensure no further action is taken beyond confirming the situation to avoid any accidental bans. The hacker allegedly distributed around 75k in my game during a heist, and Rockstar did not remove it. Currently, I have over 300 hours in GTA Online, with most on PC. When encountering a hacker, I switch lobbies multiple times. The only issues are long load times and unexpected disconnects. Purchased the game via Steam if that clarifies anything.
The issue with those labeled "banned falsely" often involves a handful of individuals who might be accurate, but I’d risk it being most of them concealing the truth. They seem to be using blackmail tactics against rockstars after getting caught cheating, trying to avoid admitting their own shortcomings in the game they manipulate to feel better about themselves.
I'm being straight with you and sharing my thoughts. Hackers are everywhere—some helpful, some not so much. It's frustrating when they mess up your experience or crash your game, especially when big companies like Rockstar don't step in. Earning real money while playing games like GTA is tough, which is why I appreciate those who share their loot. P2P servers are a headache; lag and desync are common, but most issues vanish once you get used to them. I was banned for four months after using exploits, then got a two-week suspension after explaining my situation honestly. Still upset about the bans, but I understand how things can feel unfair. Despite all the negatives, this game is my favorite on Steam, and I’d buy it again if I could. I’ve rage-quit more times than I can count, but I love it. It’s a rollercoaster—good days and bad—but in the end, you’ll appreciate it for what it is.
