I powered on my computer a few weeks back and it displayed a completely black screen. There was no logo or BIOS display, just solid black. I waited about fifteen minutes before noticing the issue. I tried resetting it, but nothing changed. I was on the verge of giving up as all my university assignments were due on Monday. I removed the side panel and unplugged the 360 controller; the system started working properly. I ignored it until it happened again today—this time, disconnecting several components didn’t help. Here’s what I’ve done so far: Inspected all connections and extra items per a sticky forum thread—no improvement. Reset CMOS—it stopped showing at all. Re-seated RAM—still no change. Tried reseating the GPU—but it doesn’t light up either. I’m considering updating the BIOS, but I don’t have access to that process. Now the peripheral lights won’t activate at all. Am I certain my motherboard is dead?
There is a myth about dead motherboards going round here. Motherboards aren't alive, they don't die. Except maybe if you step on it. You've done something else wrong. Is your monitor/cable working at all ? Unplug everything unnecessary (360 controller, one stick Ram, RGB, a pity you don't have igpu...) Edited March 16, 2023 by leclod
My display and connection are functioning normally now, but everything has become more complicated during troubleshooting. I've restarted everything using the simplest steps, yet the issue persists. Still no response. What could have caused this to happen initially?
