This CPU looks really bad. It’s definitely not functioning properly.

Likely cooked but still managed to fix it with a sharp tool to remove all the corrosion. I once recovered an e7000 chip from a stack of 775 chips that had severe pad corrosion and no post. After aggressively scraping the pads with a razor—just moving up and down without focusing on individual chips—I eventually got it to show signs of life (code dd). Once more scratching helped, and it worked again. I posted it to the BIOS, where it booted code 75, Windows loaded code ff, and even overclocked to see how far it would go on an EP45 UD3.

It really depends on who initiated the fire! If the mobo was responsible, the CPU might have made it through. But if the CPU was at fault… well, it’s going to happen again!

I’d rather avoid a $200 MOBO that might turn out useless. That CPU had a socket filled with coolant, which is pretty extreme. I’ve never seen anything like it before, so I went for a joke.
