I’ve already acquired the kit, so it’s a bit late. I bought two 8 gig Oloy 3600 MHz RAM sticks from Newegg and was curious about their reputation. I didn’t give much thought because the price was very reasonable ($57 USD) for such fast performance and they had solid reviews. Later I noticed my board and CPU wouldn’t even cope with that speed, despite being cheaper than other kits and looking much more refined—black with subtle gold accents and compact shapes instead of large Vs. I just wanted to check if I should keep them or return them and opt for something more expensive.
Essentially, most RAM is produced by Samsung, SK Hynix, or Micron. Typically the manufacturer simply mounts it onto a board and attaches a heatsink, ensuring it meets the claimed performance. (Reliability remains unaffected) When purchasing from them, focus on timing and kit size—duplicate kits are more likely to clash than you'd see from companies like G.Skill, which were similarly positioned early in the DDR4 era.
