I believe the cost is likely around $1800 or less. Probably not $1500 (I'd be surprised if it did), but NVIDIA shouldn't drop in price if it's rising. Still, even at that price, the RTX5090 would fit easily into a PC for about $3000.
In my view, it's better without a monitor that matches the card.
I was honestly thinking about a RTX 5070. That should have enough juice. More than enough. Maybe even an 5060. 5090 is going to be the fastest GPU ever if hype is to be believed.
I know OP said he's prepared to spend but i didn't think they'd want to go all out for the tippy top i9/RTXxx90 monster.
There's very little reason to spend that money unless you damn well know you want to play Rocket League at 2000fps. Middle and low to mid tier GPUs are underrated.
It's not my money and it's not my build so it's just opinion.
In reality, even with the current RTX4000 lineup, the only GPU that truly made sense was the RTX4090 from the start. The leap in performance between the 90 series and the newer models is significantly larger than what was seen before. For anyone expecting to use this hardware for an extended time, investing in the highest-end parts still offers no real advantage over the long term. Especially when performance starts to decline even at lower resolutions.
Even at 1440p, I’d still suggest going for 4K if he intends to use it for eight years. This will keep him satisfied with good visual quality throughout the duration.
