Old SMD capacitors for i7-11700
Hello! I’m reaching out for assistance from some challenging online spaces. I’m hoping to find a solution. Recently, I purchased a Clevo laptop and attempted to set up its cooling system properly. I adjusted the frequencies and tried to optimize it. My goal was CPU scaling—something I’ve done before with Intel’s 4th gen chips without issues. Last night I started working on this, but got sidetracked. I accidentally damaged the capacitors in the 11th generation Intel chip and removed the SMD under the lid (I’ll include a photo). The crystal is still fine, smooth, and I’m worried about running it without them. I’m unsure if these SMD capacitors are actually needed or if they can be replaced safely. I’d really appreciate any advice or clarification.
Welcome to the forums!!! The translator worked great btw. You might be SOLed if you cut those SMDS off underneath the IHS. The die, or crystal as you said, is fine though but the SMDs I'm more worried about and potentially made this a paper weight unless you can solder them all back on perfectly.
Thank you! I'm excited to be part of this group. Yes, I agree with your idea about thoroughly cleaning the site and applying varnish—it’s important. I wonder why Intel included these capacitors at all. Still, if possible, I’d like to restore them, though it’s a shame we don’t know the required values. I’ll solder them easily. Appreciate your help!
