Hello, I recently assembled a desktop computer utilizing a refurbished Dell Optiplex 3020 purchased from eBay and significantly enhanced it, which unfortunately led to frequent system instability and game crashes.

My System Configuration:
Intel Core i7-4770k Processor
Original Optiplex Motherboard
EVGA GTX 970 SC Graphics Card
8GB DDR3 1600MHz Memory
128GB Integral Solid State Drive
500GB Western Digital Hard Disk Drive (used for game storage)
CX500 Power Supply Unit

For instance, with Grand Theft Auto V running in safe mode, I can successfully navigate the heist and begin the Franklin mission with Lamar, reaching locations such as the Movie Theatre – a place where Union Depot is mentioned. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, and I can also play the game without crashing at a consistent 120 frames per second.

The CX500 models weren't particularly effective when they were initially released a long time ago.

I just received this recently, and it’s truly GTA. I now recall that others had utilized it for many years with a 970 and found it to be perfectly functional.

Is the PSU’s labeling in green or gray?
If it’s green, it indicates low quality and may not reliably operate that particular configuration.

Should any product display verdant coloration on its packaging, it likely indicates a pre-owned item or one that has remained in storage for an extended period—approximately five years. The CXM variant, identified by a green designation, was officially withdrawn from production in 2015 and superseded by models bearing a grey label. Attempt a return if feasible. Alternatively, the power supply unit may be malfunctioning or its substandard construction might not meet the demands of a 970 graphics card.

Could you offer some alternative ideas before I reconsider my decision?

Should the issue persist solely within GTA, attempt reinstalling the game. If the problem occurs across several games, consider updating your drivers.

If those steps fail to resolve the issue, it may be necessary to replace your power supply unit.

Could you recommend some effective power supplies that cost approximately sixty-five dollars?

New, darker-colored Corsair CX power supplies provide significantly increased performance compared to their previous versions.

The CX550 (non-upgradable) offers a price of $51 after discount or $71 without one.

The CXM550 costs $70. While a bit older than the standard non-modular CX, it remains considerably more recent and represents a noticeably better choice compared to older green-labeled Corsair power supplies.

I’ve tested a GTX 970 with my grey-labeled Corsair CX550m, and it functions reliably.
