OEM 8.1
OEM 8.1
I bought a copy of 8.1 OEM from Frys electronics, which can be returned. I’m planning to assemble a system soon—how does this process work? I know OEMs are tied to the motherboard permanently and can’t be changed, but I read something suggesting they’re not ideal for personal builds or virtual machines. Is that true?
I’m not sure about the long-term compatibility of the key with your motherboard. Honestly, since it’s a consumer model, I’d probably just return the key and buy an 8.1 version instead. An OEM key might work, but a regular one would be safer because you can’t use the official upgrade tool to make bootable media for Windows 8.1.
