I own a 2666mhz C16 HyperX Fury with 8GB RAM and some Hynix memory. I’m planning to boost the overclock temporarily until I can get a better kit aiming for 3200mhz OC for testing FPS. I might leave it for a month, but I’ve heard unstable RAM OC could mess with the OS and files. It’s best to use an old drive for a clean OS test if needed. Is that accurate? How would you set this up?
Intel generally performs better with RAM over Ryzen in terms of OC speed. Right now I lead globally with a 3600X on 3DMark scores, though most other evaluations focus on GPU performance for overall ratings. I also rank among the top 20 worldwide for this chip, just like my previous 2700 model did before switching to non-X CPU kits. Between these two, I’ve used both cheap Hyundai and Micron RAM sets.
Currently I’m running a budget Micron XMP 3600 kit at speeds of 3800MHz clock, 16/18/16/48 timings. While I ran it on UserBenchmark and other easy-to-find tests using an older 3200HZ kit boosted to 2700, the improved memory controller in the 3600X didn’t seem to push the 3200HZ kit further—around 3433MHz max now.
Personally, I’m impressed with a solid 32GB Samsung kit. It’s clear I’d rather invest in a high-end system than stick with cheaper options. I’d probably recommend someone else use a 32GB kit and fully overclock it if possible. There’s no reason not to go for a top-tier Samsung build, especially if you’re willing to spend around $70.
In other news, I often tweak the host/base clock for maximum FPS in games. I also fine-tune timings, adjust PMU settings, and manually manage DDR4 configurations. I’ve never experienced OS corruption or SSD issues. Overall, I’d suggest a friend try a 32GB Samsung kit and see how it performs—unless you’re certain the 5900MHz is worth it.
the ram came from my previous setup and I was just checking the fps numbers before upgrading to a 32gb 3600mhz system. I’m limited by clearance issues from Assassin’s Creed 3, and I only saw Corsair LX Pro or Kingston 3600mhz C18 options. I don’t think there are many affordable choices with similar performance to Bdie.
