System Asus ROG Z690 with custom loop, 2x360 rad i9 13900k + thermal grizzly contact frame (0.4 NM) – by core, MCE turned off, auto/default for everything else. G.skill Trident-Z DDR5 2x16GB (XMP disabled), EVGA 3080 TI ICX Samsung 990 Pro as boot drive. Recently rebuilt this setup with a new configuration, using the 13900k and 990. Previously ran a different Z690 board with 12900k. During initial testing I encountered many WHEA and CPU logical errors plus crashes in OCCT. Updated motherboard BIOS to the latest version which removed CPU issues, but WHEA problems persist. No overclock or XMP settings yet. The only alternative to faulty components was the contact frame. I struggled getting it to fit properly until I acquired the torque screwdriver and it matched the specifications.
Consider revisiting the stock ILM settings to determine if adjustments resolve the issue. It seems ASUS boards often face problems with the Thermal Grizzly solution, requiring special screws or unusual tightening methods. Testing different torque settings could help clarify whether this is the root cause or not.
You might want to examine the data again for consistency. What comes next?
Consider running a memory test with Memtest86. Most WHEA warnings point to ring instability or general memory issues, and unless you're pushing overclocking limits, memory is likely the main concern. You might be one of the rare users who ends up with a severely damaged CPU if the test reveals corruption.
Thanks for the advice! It looks like the test passed, so you might want to explore another CPU next time.
I just completed 30 minutes of OCCT without any issues. In the event viewer there was error 17, likely related to a PCIe root. I reinstalled drivers and turned off all aspm and native power management settings found in the BIOS. It seems this issue keeps occurring on some Z690/Z790 boards. Running auto voltage and clocks with an XMP tweaked profile and adjusting load line 4, MCE disabled. Temperature is around 83°C.
