Most games allow Nvidia to access for creating custom ambient occlusion effects, which can then be turned on. This feature is usually managed by the game engine itself.

You're curious about how the in-game Ao and the control panel Ao compare, especially since they seem to differ in MGS:V. It's possible the settings you enabled affect which one appears.
