Hello everyone, I recently purchased some new components about a month ago. I've noticed my M.2 SSD isn't being recognized sometimes, forcing me to restart the PC three times already. This issue pops up when I try to launch a game on Steam, which shows "INSTALL Smile". I own two M.2 drives: an older Samsung 970 EVO 1TB for Windows and a newer WD Black SN850X 1TB for gaming purposes that require faster speeds. I also have another SATA SSD for slower games. The SN850X is installed in the Gen5 slot on my motherboard, even though it's not compatible with that version. My specs include an RTX 4070, Ryzen 9 9950X, 32GB RAM, and a 6000MT/s GPU. I also have a 30MSI X870E gaming card, Wi-Fi, two 4TB HDDs, and the other drives listed. This problem hasn't happened to me before.

Have you looked for firmware updates for the SN850X? If not, proceed with that. The Western Digital app is called Sandisk Dashboard or WD Dashboard. You might also attempt to manually configure the m.2 slot for Gen 4 in BIOS settings.

M.2 drives also come with their own software. You can locate them in your device settings or manufacturer's website. Installation usually involves following the provided instructions.

Focus on the software rather than the hardware. For WD devices, search for Sandisk Dashboard. Make sure to verify the firmware for any additional SSDs as well. Need recommendations for other SATA SSDs?

For the WD Drive In you’ll find the support page at the provided link. Western Digital has stopped providing software updates and now directs users to Sandisk Dashboard. By going down the page, you’ll see a download option for Sandisk software. If you need to check firmware for Samsung drives, use Samsung Magician instead. https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consum...ort/tools/ Updating the firmware should help resolve your issue.

Hey, I did everything and it looks like the issue is resolved. However, only time will confirm. I also reinserted the M.2 again and noticed the EZ clip is damaged on the Gen 5 M.2 drive. Because my fingers are large, those simple clips are crafted from extremely thin, cheap plastic, so they likely broke. But there’s still a tiny plastic corner that can hold the M.2 in place. Then I simply tightened the included cooling plate with the thermal pads provided for the Gen 5 bay.
